One of the most common question we get as bridal stylists is, “Do people really get two dresses, do I need to?” The answer is, not everyone! You do not need to feel pressured into getting two dresses, but if you really want two and it fits in your budget, then do it! To help you make your decision, we have written pros and cons of having one or two dresses!
Pros to Two Dresses
If a bride is really stuck between two silhouettes, then this can be beneficial! You can go all out ballgown for your ceremony, and then comfortable fit-and-flare or mini to dance the night away at your reception.
Your ceremony space is a different vibe than your reception venue. We get a lot of brides that are getting married in churches, and many of them have certain dress code requirements, for example, covered shoulders. Having two looks in this case can allow the bride to have a look the may not have been able to wear in the ceremony venue.
You envision wearing a short dress for your rehearsal dinner. Your second look does not have to be for your reception! Rehearsal dinners are a perfect chance to dress up in a dress that is not close to the look of your wedding gown! We love the Gia suit dress by Hannah Hill for rehearsal dinners.
Cons
Many dresses come with detachable sleeves and accessories. It can really transform the look of the dress. A 2-in-1 dress if you will! More and more designers are doing these types of looks because two dresses is not always practical! Overskirts are always a great option too!
You LOVE your dress! Hey, you said yes to your dress for a reason! It is a dress that you are likely to only wear once. If you are in love, then wear it the whole night! There is no pressure to have two dresses! Do only what you feel is most representative of you and your partner.
Whatever you decide to do, your stylist at Gemma Bridal is there to support you and find the perfect look for your wedding day! (Except TikTok hacking the bottom of your wedding dress off, we do not support that, haha!)
